Electa (Marlow) Pulley

Permenus Brisco Pulley 1839-1917

Permenus was born on 23 May 1839 in Versailles, Morgan County, Missouri to John Pulley and Jane Blakely.

On 8 March 1860, Permenus married Electa Marlow, daughter of James Marlow and Annie Parrott, in Nodaway County, Missouri. Electa was born 1 October 1843.

Permenus and Electa had the following children:

Permenus served in the Civil War, company A, Andrew Company, BTN EMM, Union Army.  After Permenus was discharged from service, he received a land grant of 40 acres of land in Dallas County, Missouri and he moved his family from Northern Missouri to South Central Missouri sometime after the 1880 census. They made their home on a farm that lay between what is now Windyville and Plad, Missouri. The property joined Plad on the southeast side of Highway 64. Permenus was the second postmaster of Plad and began that role on 12 May 1893. In 1895, he received another 160 acre homestead (see land grants). He and Electa had 12 children together. Electa died on 7 November 1915 and is buried in the Scrivener Cemetery. Her headstone was placed by her great grandson, Gene Pulley, many years later. Permenus died on 10 Aug 1917 in Plad, Missouri and is buried in the Scrivener Cemetery. His headstone wasn't placed on his grave until 1928. His daughter, Dora Kennedy, applied to the War Department for a military headstone to place on his grave. (Please click HERE to look at that application). It lists the Company and Unit that he served in. For more information on his military service, please check out his pension application (link on the left of the page.)

On a side note, Plad was originally supposed to be named Glad, but the authorities that be couldn't read the writing and so it became Plad.

We have not been able to locate Permenus' death certificate.
